In our Dec. 22nd post I provided an overview of Windows Mobile 6.1 features. Today I thought I’d provide more information about the device naming scheme that Microsoft introduced after the release of Windows Mobile 6 for handheld devices running Windows. I know this change left many confused, so I thought a quick review would help.
The following chart explains the differences between each type of device and their current and former names:
|Windows Mobile Name||Touchscreen||Phone||Former Name|
|Windows Mobile Classic Device||YES||NO||Pocket PC|
|Windows Mobile Standard Device||NO||YES||Smartphone|
|Windows Mobile Professional Device||YES||YES||Pocket PC Phone Edition|
